Petaling Street

The Chinese Kapitan Yap Ah Loy was largely responsible for the development of the area. In 1870, he opened a Tapioca Mill in Petaling Street where the tubers from his farms were brought here to be ground into flour. Petaling Street is still fondly called ‘Chee Cheong Kai’, in Cantonese, which means starch factory street. It is located nearby the Klang River which is near to ROL project at precinct 7 and nearby Blue Pool.

Today, Petaling Street is where you can find roadside hawker stalls selling a variety of things such as clothes, food, drinks, electronic goods and fresh produce. With a myriad of goods and items, you will definitely be spoilt for choice. In case you’re hungry or thirsty, the restaurants and stalls here are more than capable of quenching your thirst and satiating your hunger. From waffles to local favourites like the Hokkien Mee and burgers to oyster omelette, you’re set for an extraordinary gastronomic adventure.

Despite all this, Petaling Street is most popular for its range of goods, particularly at night when the trading activities are in full swing. You can find an excellent range of items to choose from, including sportswear, shoes, apparels, and so much more, all going for stock clearance prices. And if that still doesn’t work for you, you can display your impressive oratory skills to haggle for a bit more, and often, the results are positive.
