The beautification of the river aims to rejuvenate the banks of the Klang and Gombak Rivers, as well as increase the economic competitiveness of the area. Starting at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa in the north to Midvalley in the south, the project covers an area of 10.7 kilometers along the Klang and Gombak Rivers to support recreational activities such as walking, jogging, cycling and picnicking. The footpath along the river bank between the Midvalley to the river confluence at Masjid Jamek has been improved to create a comfortable continuous route. Guiding Lights are provided in series along the river to guide pedestrians at night. Four guide galleries have been built as an information center other than the waqf hut so that visitors can relax while enjoying the scenery. Various flowers and plants are also planted to beautify the river banks
Areas located close to the river banks are also being developed to unlock economic potential. To ensure pedestrian accessibility, the path is widened/re -paved and street furniture is arranged in line so as not to obstruct the path. Road bends are also leveled at each intersection to make the movement of pedestrians smoother. The included tactile paving finishes along the walkway serve to guide the visually impaired. The road level connecting these routes is elevated and equipped with bollards to give priority to pedestrians. A directional search system was also built and bike paths were clearly marked. These areas are closely related to the history of Kuala Lumpur. Thus, the heritage trails that complement the riverside trail have been reworked so that the public can appreciate the historic buildings and cultural heritage that still exist, reconnecting their souls to the river.
Developing pedestrian and bicycle path facilities on the river banks
Provide public facilities and public parks for recreation
Promote ecosystem growth
Preservation of heritage and culture
As part of River of Life (RoL) project, the redevelopment were planned to ensure the water quality is suitable for water activity, and presentable for visual impact as the lake is quite large. The improvement is not only to achieve Class B2 – no harm for skin and suitable for water activity, but also to create a better view of the lake. Not only that, some mechanical system – 100 meters of water jet fountain has been installed to provide better water circulation for oxygen supply. It is essential for aquatic ecosystem.
Located in Jalan Kuantan, Titiwangsa Lake Garden is now the top public park in Kuala Lumpur with its highest number of visitors, whether local and outsiders. Even before its rejuvenation project, this 114 acres park has been chosen by the citizen as one of the most attractive park in Kuala Lumpur aside of Perdana Botanical Garden and Permaisuri Lake Garden. People were enjoying their recreational activities such as jogging, cycling, boating as well as food hunting from the previous famous Nelayan Restaurant nearby that served variety of Malaysian Cuisine.
For almost 38 years since 1980, this park has never gone through any major upgrading works. The park facilities were maintained by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) through minor repairs and structural additions whenever the needs arise. The needs of new and up-to-date facilities were essential to ensure the continuity of uptrend recreation (Zumba, Fun Run, Fun Cycle, Aerobic, etc). It has become the project goal to fulfill these recreational requirements. Therefore it has to be enhanced into more convenient recreational environment and also designated spaces especially for the park with high number of users in city center.
