Introduction

Global Environment Centre (GEC) was appointed via letter (68) in PPS.KS (S) 15/2/6/20 Jld.9 dated 14 December 2016, to undertake this Public Outreach Programme which will be conducted over a 4-year period (2016 – 2020).

The ROLPOP5 covers an catchment area of 98.49 square kilometres that lies in the municipality area of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to the west of the Klang River and Bunus River. 

• Zone 1: The Gombak river basin area includes upstream of Gombak River. 
• Zone 2: The Batu river basin area includes the Jinjang River basin and Batu River basin areas. 
• Zone 3: The Keroh river basin area.
• Zone 4: Involves the downstream of western portion of Klang river basin downstream of Masjid Jamek.

The Public Outreach Programme (POP) aims to address pollution by: 

• Educating the public on common do’s and don’ts as well as other skills to preserve the river 
• Developing and promoting Best Management Practices (BMP’s) linked to other 13 ROL key initiatives 
• Promoting a sense of ownership towards the river
• Initiating a long term and sustainable change in behaviour towards conserving the river
